Poker Chip Group Buys

If you're looking for a discount on quality poker chips, you might consider joining a 'group buy'. By joining forces with other poker enthusiasts, and buying in larger quantities, it is possible to obtain a lower price per chip. Many of the online poker forums have a regular group of members who are, shall we say, poker chip fanatics! A respected member of the group agrees to collect the money (usually in escrow) from a large group of buyers. He then purchases a large group of chips and ships the chips to each group member. The entire process can take several months.

The big advantage to a group buy is that you obtain a discount on the price but the amount saved is not really all that great. And some chips, such as the new Paulson home chips, are only available with a minimum purchase of 100,000 chips. The downsides to a group buy are that you must wait a long time and take a bit more of a risk with your money. Most group buys are organized by senior, and well-known and respected, members of the group, some group buys are even organized by an established poker chip retailer.

Before you spend $1 or more on a group buy chip, keep in mind that you can order a beautiful chip with your own custom label on it from ASM for just under $1 per chip. This is an excellent poker chip and is much more secure than any group buy chip since it will have a customized label that only you can purchase.
