Desjgn Plastic Playing Cards Review

Desjgn Large Index Playing Cards

These are a brand new playing card design (J Design) that has been introduced by ClassicPlayingCards.com. The cards are available in regular or large index ... and in six different colors - red, blue, yellow, black, green, and purple! The Desjgn playing cards feature a unique font and graphical design and are 100% plastic. The designs on the court cards (Jack, Queen, King) are particularly impressive.

The cards are available only in poker size (no bridge size). They have very rounded corners compared to most other decks of playing cards. The red is a deep red, but not quite a security ink red. The white background is very bright and the black is a deep black. The Desjgn cards are somewhat slick and have a smooth texture to them. They are thicker than Copag and Kem cards, but do not feel as thick as Dal Negro or Modiano cards. They have a very squarish feel to them. They feel good, and there is a definite substantial feel to them.

Desjgn logo One thing that I did not like about these cards is that the pip pattern is different from the standard pattern of other playing cards. I have been playing cards for so many decades that I can simply look at the top row or two of pips and have the ability to tell what the card rank is - this is useful when viewing cards at a long distance. For instance the 10 on a standard deck has one column of 4 pips, a middle column of 2 pips, and a third column of 4 pips. But on the Desjgn playing cards the 10 has a column of 3 pips, a middle column of 4 pips, and a third column of 3 pips. This is different from all other decks of cards and made it a bit more difficult to recognize the ranks of cards.

The Desjgn website is not the best (Flash) and it is a bit hard to find your way around. It takes a bit of searching just to find out how much the cards cost. There is a very interesting summary of how the graphics for each card was chosen and the history of playing cards, especially the court cards.

The Desjgn cards come in a standard cardboard box. The box is nothing special so you will probably want to buy a plastic playing card case to store your cards.

The suggested retail price is $7.95 per deck. The cards may be purchased through Ebay or from the TridentCards.com website. Replacement cards are available from the manufacturer for a cost of $1 per card. These cards are brand new and might not be available for sale until later this week (Dec. 11th).

The Desjgn playing cards are a unique design of playing cards that is not available anywhere else. The feel and texture of the cards is good, so your purchase decision is only a matter of how much you like the design of the cards.
